Safeway #HelpsFeedAbility at BC Easter Seals Camps
THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this year’s Help Feed Ability campaign at Safeway stores. Whether you volunteered your time, donated at checkout, tweeted or encouraged customers to donate in store – know you’ve made a difference in the lives of Easter Seals campers who will now move through life with the independence, new friendships, and unique experiences that can only be realized through the magic of summer camp.
We are particularly thankful for our longstanding partnership with Safeway Canada and the support we have received over the years to support Easter Seals camp programs. This partnership has given thousands of kids the opportunity to attend a fully accessible summer camp. For the second year, funds will also support the Feeding Ability program designed to get children excited about eating and preparing healthy food regardless of their ability.
This year the nutrition programming will focus on good hydration and healthy beverages. In addition to the programming each camper will receive a Feeding Ability branded reusable water bottle. Once campers return home, they can visit http://www.feedingability.ca where they will find a variety of content supporting healthy nutrition, participating in the kitchen, and fun recipes.
Summer camp for kids living with disabilities is a life-changing experience. At Easter Seals camps they are challenged in ways they never have before, in a loving and supportive environment. They have access to many activities they would otherwise rarely participate in. Friendships that are formed and cultivated at camp last a lifetime.
Throughout the campaign, Safeway customers were invited to make a donation at checkout. Each $2 donation was rewarded with five bonus Air Miles reward miles.
Last year across Canada Safeway raised $272, 281 to send Easter Seals kids to camp through the Help Feed Ability Campaign. This 2016 campaign marks the tenth year Safeway has partnered with Easter Seals Canada to help provide support to those living with disabilities. Thanks to the efforts of Safeway employees and the generosity of Safeway customers, over $8.5 million has been raised through this longstanding partnership.
Thank you Safeway Canada and customers for helping make the dream of attending summer camp a reality for so many kids and for funding nutrition program that will help them to make informed and healthy food decisions for years to come!
