Holidays at the Easter Seals House

February 1, 2018

“Look for something positive each day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.”

That was one of the messages written in an incredibly thoughtful card given to the families staying at the Vancouver Easter Seals House over the holidays. The card was made by some of the students at Emily Carr Elementary School, right across the street from Easter Seals House and was filled with positive thoughts and holiday greetings.

Christmas can be challenging for families who can’t go home for the holidays. Medical treatments don’t ‘wait’ for the New Year or take a ‘holiday’; that is why the Easter Seals House is open 365 days of the year.

Every year, the Easter Seals House has hosted our annual Christmas dinner just to bring some holiday cheer to the families staying over during the Christmas season. This year, we hosted 32 guests in our 3rd floor lounge for a full turkey feast, once again generously provided by the Pinnacle Hotel Vancouver. Some extra holiday cheer came from the lights and decorations put up across the House, and from another incredible gingerbread house featuring the city of Who-ville and the infamous Grinch made by Emelle’s Catering.

But once again, it was the people who filled the room with laughter and spirit who truly made it feel like Christmas. The families who stay at the Easter Seals House have an unbelievable ability to find something positive every day and make the best of tough situations. That’s why we are so happy to host this dinner each year, to help make some positivity a little bit easier to find.
