GVHBA raises $82K and renovates lounge & kitchen at Easter Seals House

After 30 years, with 30,000 bed nights and hosting 5,000 families each year, Easter Seals House 3rd Floor Lounge needed refreshing to better serve the families who use it every day and thanks to the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) the newly renovated space is now open to guests.

GVHBA raised $82,425 for the renovations that included new flooring, appliances, kitchen counters, cabinets, furniture and paint. Robert Capar, President of maison d’etre design-build inc., who managed the renovation, said the project had a lot of meaning for everyone involved.

“We are so proud to have been involved in a type of project like this and know that it will help so many people,” says Capar. “It was also great to see a wide range of participation from different members of GVHBA including Platinum Sponsors Pacific Rim Cabinets, Qualico Developments and Teklar Enterprises. Everyone just came together and worked hard. We even came in under budget, allowing for more money to go into furniture for the room!”

Easter Seals House provides low-cost accommodations in what can be very financially-stressed situations for families. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it is located blocks away from Vancouver’s best hospitals and treatment centres.

“The lounge is a special place for families who come from over 700 communities across BC and the Yukon who need to travel to Vancouver for medical attention and treatment. It’s a place where they can go to relax and unwind after what can be long, challenging and stressful days at hospitals and medical appointments. Here families can connect with each other, offer comfort and receive support,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, President and CEO of Easter Seals BC/Yukon. “We are grateful for the support and contribution from GVHBA, suppliers and donors and all the trades people who worked on this project to help support the out of town families and adults who come to stay at Easter Seals House.”
