12 Days of Campmas – Haylee’s Story

Happy 28th Birthday Haylee! Today it’s the 11th day of #12DaysofCampmas and Haylee’s birthday! She’s been attending Easter Seals adult camps since the age of 19.

“The week of camp is the highlight of the year… It’s my holiday away from home & program. I enjoy the accepting environment letting me be whom I am and able to express my feelings through vocalization. It’s always a positive experience.”

Haylee, who has Angelman Syndrome, looks forward to camp all year. She loves the welcoming community and learning and experiencing new things while always being accepted for who she is. She loves singing, meals, trampoline, laughing with the counsellors and has had the opportunity to try wheel chair basketball and sailing.

“My favourite memory was when the camp supervisors were “cereal” characters. I spent the whole week following them, especially Toucan Sam, and laughing hysterically.”

Haylee’s caregiver shares she enjoys “seeing Haylee’s smile and excitement to see all the activities and her friends. It’s nice to see how everyone always greets her. And it’s nice to see returning campers & their reactions! Haylee constantly signs the word camp all year.”

Haylee also has a lot of positive things to say about camp staff. “The staff are all so amazing and make you feel important. I appreciate how flexible the staff are & how accommodating they are to make each & every camper have the best experience they have ever had. Campers have the best time & are treated like royalty.”

Thanks for sharing with us Haylee and Happy Birthday!
